Homework again!

It's been a long time since I last did an entry showing what my Literacy homework was, but now I've got another peice!

We had to write an opening for story, describing the setting, based on 'Thespina and the Scorpidon' which is a mythical, greek story. Here's what the author did for her opening paragraph:

Once, when the world was young, there was a beautifulisland in Greece. The sun blazed down on the feilds, which were smothered in wild flowers every spring, while far out to sea, tiny fishing boats bobbed on the shimmering, sparkling waves. It should have been a happy place, but a great danger lay over the people like a thick, grey cloud.

Here's my opening paragraph:

Once, when the world was just created, an enchanting island sat in the centre of the Antarctic Ocean. Icy waves licked the edges of the crisp snow, whilst trees fluttered amongst the flakes of glistening snow-flakes. The sun hardly ever shone on the paper-white snow, which meant that it never really melted. Everything was smothered in layers over layers of snow. The island was a breathtaking sight, and anyone would think it would be the perfect place to live if you were wrapped up warm! However, a deadly danger hid under the thick snow, like a huge, dark shadow.

What do you think?

Please tell me through a comment if you have any suggestions of how I could improve my story's!

Bye then, Gabbie xxx
