Suzi (Mum)

Hi, This is my homework; a biography of my mum!

The Biography of Susan Corbett

Susan Corbett’s (Suzi) first memory was when she was about 2½; she went to her Auntie Eve’s house for dinner. Suzi had on a new tartan dress, so she was feeling extremely special! For dessert Auntie Eve had made home-made ice-cream. She had never eaten ice-cream before, and she sat, on the sofa, in a new tartan dress, eating her first ice-cream, getting it all over her new dress!
Sadly, a few months after her 3rd birthday, her mother (Dianne Corbett,) and her father (Thomas Corbett,) split up. Surprisingly this had no effect or emotion on her behalf, as she was so young. When Suzi had been at school for about 4/5yrst, on school photo day her teacher sent her to have a photo with her older brother, Ian. It didn’t go to well, for they both got the giggles! When the photo came out, Suzi and Ian had hamster cheeks from all their laughter!
Suzi then moved up to high school, and went on a bus on her own for the first time. She was 12yrs old and everyone else had on a school coloured cardigan (blue), but she had brown. Suzi felt so embarrassed!
At 13 Suzi moved to a new home and whilst her Mum was unpacking Suzi went over Mousehold Heath to explore her new surroundings. She ran down a hill that was a lot steeper than she had imagined and her legs ran faster than she was prepared for. She landed with a smack at the bottom and realised her left wrist was a funny shape. A trip to casualty confirmed it was broken, her mum was not too happy with this on their first day in their new home! Six weeks later when the caste came off her arm looked thin, pale and withered, and felt strange to use. As a treat she was taken to a boutique to choose a new dress and she was allowed to go to her first Disco
At 19, Suzi moved to South-Africa with her parents (Her Mum had re-married,) her life long friend ‘Sue Griff’ was already living in Johannesburg and they shared an apartment on top of a hotel with use of the restaurants and swimming pool. They lived on the 24th floor and her Mum and husband lived on the 28th so they were nearby when they were needed but not to near when they were not! She got a job in a newspaper, writing fashion, health and beauty articles and advertisement features. Suzi really enjoyed experiencing this new and unspoilt country, she loved it!
After 5/7 yrs in a new country, she went back on holiday to England on holiday and met Mark a beach party. They then both went back to South-Africa, and spent their time travelling around the country. In 1991 they got married in England, and went on a honeymoon to Southern Ireland. They both thought it was fantastic!!!
3 months before her 31st birthday in the year 1995, Suzi had her 1st daughter. However, the baby remained nameless for 4 days, as nobody could think of a name. Mark came to visit Suzi at the hospital, very excitedly saying “I’ve found the perfect name! Gabriella!” They thought it was the perfect name, as there is an angel called Gabrielle and this baby was like an angel!
Suzi studied a degree for 3yrs whilst working at Meridian East, and graduated in Norwich Cathedral with a Bsc and 2.1 honours, presented by Delia Smith. She carried on working in Meridian East, and had her 2nd child in 2003, again naming her four days later; Amelia. However, this time it was no angel, for a nick-name we call her ‘Milly the Minx!’
Suzi is very fulfilled in her work being General Manager for a Charity that helps people with disabilities and mental health problems into work opportunities. Her main priority for the future is being a good Mum to her 2 children.

Bye for now, Gabzy xxx
